A Home Safety & Accessibility Assessment is a structured review of the home designed to identify potential safety hazards, accessibility concerns, and areas that may need improvement to support safer, more independent living.
Who is the assessment for?
Our assessments are designed for older adults who want to remain in their homes, families concerned about an aging parent or loved one, and those who want to plan ahead for changing safety and accessibility needs.
What areas of the home do you assess?
We assess key areas including entrances and walkways, stairs and handrails, bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, living areas, lighting, trip hazards, accessibility, smoke and carbon monoxide protection, and emergency preparedness. These areas are consistent with the categories covered by our comprehensive assessment checklist.
How much does an assessment cost?
A Home Safety & Accessibility Assessment is $249.00
How long does the assessment take?
Most assessments take approximately 60–90 minutes. The actual time may vary depending on the size and layout of the home.
What do I receive after the assessment?
You receive a professional digital report documenting the assessment findings. The report may include photographs, identified concerns, and recommended actions. Findings are organized to help you understand what is acceptable, what could be improved, and what should receive priority attention.
Do you perform the recommended repairs?
No. Safe at Home SC focuses on the assessment and recommendations. You remain in control of who performs any improvements. You may use your own qualified professional or a third-party service to locate one.
Do I have to make every recommended improvement?
No. The report is designed to help you and your family make informed decisions. You decide which recommendations to address and when.
Is this the same as a real estate home inspection?
No. Our service focuses specifically on home safety and accessibility for aging in place. It is not intended to replace a real estate, structural, electrical, plumbing, or other specialized inspection performed by an appropriately licensed professional.
Do I need to be experiencing mobility problems to schedule an assessment?
No. You don't have to wait for a problem to develop. An assessment can be useful for families who simply want to plan ahead and make the home safer as needs change.
Can an adult child schedule an assessment for a parent?
Yes. Adult children and other family members can schedule an assessment for a loved one. We will coordinate the home visit with the appropriate person.
How often should the home be reassessed?
A reassessment can be helpful when there has been a significant change in mobility, the home has been modified, new safety concerns have developed, or the family simply wants to review the home again as needs change.
